Home Again Home Again

Calgary House Sitting Service

Where do we begin?

Contact us to set up a meeting at your house before your scheduled departure.  This interview is important as it ensures that we know how you would like your home to be cared for while you are gone.  We will complete the Client Checklist and Service Agreement, discuss the house sitting services you need, do a walk-through of your home with you, and complete the Service Agreement.  We will obtain and test a house key and collect the service fees.  After the meeting, you should feel that your home is in capable hands.

What are your rates?

In general, rates vary between $20 - $35 per visit.  Please contact us to receive information specific to your situation.

I am away frequently and often at short notice.  Do we need to have a meeting every time I leave town?

No.  Once your Service Agreement is on file and if you have agreed to let us keep your key, a quick call to us and fee payment is all you need to book service.

What is your policy on keys?

We will obtain your house keys at the initial meeting.  Keys will be returned by mail or we can keep your key to streamline future service requests.  We keep all keys in a fireproof safe.  All keys are marked with a code that does not identify your name or address.

What will you do if something goes wrong while I’m gone?

We will contact you directly to notify you of the situation.  We will contact and make arrangements with insurance agents, plumbers, cleaners, and other professional services that may be required.  We will keep you up to date on developments via email, but will handle things so that you may continue your vacation with as few interruptions as possible.

How am I billed and when is it due?

Payment in full is due prior to the first day of service.  Service is not secured until fees have been collected.  Variable charge services, such as groceries, require an advance deposit.  The cash difference and receipt will be waiting in the house along with your groceries.  We currently only accept cash or personal cheques.

How much notice do you need for a cancellation?

Cancellations may be made up to 48 hours in advance of the first scheduled date of service.  If less than 48 hours notice is given, a cancellation fee equal to one visit will be charged.

Do you take “last minute” reservations?

We will make every effort to accommodate last minute clients, depending on the time and resources available.

Is my personal information kept confidential?

Absolutely.  We do not disclose any client information to third parties.

Do you have references?

Of course!  References are available upon request.  In the meantime, you can read a few testimonials provided by some of our clients.

How long have you been in business?

Home Again Home Again has been operating for almost three years now.

How did you come up with the idea for this business?

The owner of the company, is a lawyer turned stay-at-home mom to a young family.

She was often asked by friends and family to watch their homes and feed their cats during vacations.  She wondered what Calgarians who don’t know their neighbours do when they go on holiday.  What happens when neighbours go away at the same time?  How do homeowners comply with their home insurance policies to have their vacant house checked if they don’t know anybody who can perform this task?

Then she made the unpleasant discovery that it is no fun coming home from vacation with two tired, hungry kids, six loads of laundry, and an empty fridge.

A business was born.

Why the weird name?

Whenever our family pulls up to the house after a long trip, we’ve always sighed and said, “Home again, home again.”  Who knows why?  It just means that we are glad to be back home.  It comes from a children’s rhyme:

    To market, to market

    To buy a fat pig.

    Home again, home again

    Jigiddy jig.
